MY STORY

 

Magalie was born in Quebec city, Canada,  of deep french Canadian roots going back to the 1600’s. Growing up, she was a fierce, ambitious and adventurous. Hungry to experience the world and stretch herself, she started racing sail boats at age 13. While she was not particularly gifted at it, her work ethics combined with her passion for learning how to master the winds and the tactical game of sailing kept her going. Her soul wanted to master flow – what the chinese call the Tao.  

 

FROM I TO WE

 

By the time Magalie had graduated college with a major in Business, her passion and unstoppable drive led her to raise the money she needed and move to Europe to pursue her Olympic Quest. In 2002, she was participating in a World Championship when suddently, a mistake she made triggered a disproportionate cathartic emotional breakdown for her; the pent up energy she had suppressed for most of her life for the sake of being strong, focused and ‘on’ needed to be released. Her soul felt like the eruptive lava calling her to wake up and come home – home in herself, home in her humanity. That volcanic disorienting eruption led her to an out of body experience that lasted several days where she observed the ego-driven matrix she was unconsciously caught in. That’s when she realized how isolated and disconnected she felt from herself, others, and the deeper truth of life. In spite of all the praises, friendships and living a life she felt passion for, a deep void and sense of disillusionment was making itself visible. This psychospiritual unraveling was the gate to a profound awakening where her ‘I’ mindset that led her to become a world class athlete was ready to transform, opening space for a new world-centric consciousness. As she bravely surrendered to the wild terrain of her soul’s impulse, she began to acquaint with her a loss friend who felt like stranger from a foreign land… her authentic self. 

At that moment, she knew at her core that the top down system that pushes its athletes to their physical limits comes at a high cost.

What if overiding the wisdom of the emotional and physical body was getting in the way of allowing a stronger innate power to come through?

Seeking to create healthier conditions to rise, she approached invited the women part of the national team to consider raising together the funds needed to build an alternative path towards mastery. In such competitive and individualistic context, the vision of building an alternative holistic and collaborative path towards Athens felt radical. That said, all women resonated with the vision and could relate to the impact of the current disfunctional approach. While only one athlete would get her Olympic ticket, the idea of forging a path aligned with our feminine way felt promissing and exciting. As the top Canadian solo sailor at the time, Magalie was risking to loose her lead by supporting everyone to thrive as a whole. Yet deep down, this felt right. Magalie was experiencing servant leadership for the first time.  She was on purpose.
